New video: VLOOKUP in Excel 2007

Excel 2007 is full of formulae. I've only scratched the surface of them. But there are some that can really help make life easier for us accountants.

How many times have you compared one list of info to another and had to spend ages ticking items off on both lists?

If the lists are in Excel, you can combine them easily by using a vlookup formula.

Here's a video that shows how to do a simple vlookup.

  1. This is brilliant! I love it - I wanted to share this clip on http://www.videosift.com to promote your excellent presentation (my suggested title - "How to use VLOOKUP in Excel 2007 like a rockstar"), but it doesn't seem like I can embed your video elsewhere? Or is that hidden?

Regardless, I love the "F4" shortcut which, for some odd reason, I hadn't known until now - it's brilliant.

I'll be in touch about embedding the video elsewhere.

  3. Hello, I'm starting to work tomorrow at a florist therefore no time to do a great deal of learning. I'm somewhat familiar with Excel, have had lists before but this is a new concept for the florist and I want to be able to offer my help. They want to start a customer list complete with birthdays and anniversaries. Click on the birthdays and today's birthdays come up; etc. Can you tell me how to do this? I believe it is possible in Excel and if so, why purchase a data entry program? Thank you, Donna

  4. Hi Donna,

Yes, this is possible in Excel and I'd suggest that the best way is by using the filters.

Make the list, then make sure your cursor is on the header row (e.g. if you have a heading that says "Birthdays", click there).

If your employer has Excel 2003, then you'd need to click on Data and Filter. You can then choose to filter the contents of any column, so you'd be able to pick just today's date to view.

To access this in Excel 2007, on the Home ribbon, click the drop-down arrow next to the "Sort and Filter" button (over on the far right) and choose Filter.

I hope that helps. Best of luck with your new job.
